ReplyOk discussion… But I’m suspicious of study used to launch the topic. Looked at what was published in the Lancet, and data seemed to contain obvious weaknesses and anomolies that seem to call into question conclusions, also the vetting process for data sources and wasn’t identified or discussed. In several States reporting deaths weren’t so terrible for black subjects (below 10% error) and vastly worse for white non-hispanic subjects (near 50% error). For other neighboring states with similar demographics and environments the situation was flipped. There didn’t seem to be any preregistration of methods, so it seems like the kind of thing subject to data mining by just adjusting dials to reinforce a position. Which doesn’t mean there’s nothing there, but exceptional claims generally require exceptional evidence, and this only suggests data anomolies that call for a higher quality investigation…
ReplyIt’s published in a medical journal, where I doubt they’d except similar study standards for typical medical study. The conclusion that made it into publications and mass media, and even onto this show seems undeserved and potentially damaging.
Bill, you still don’t know what “defend” means. “Moving where the money goes” is PART AND PARCEL “defunding”. It’s not “eliminate” the police. It’s about reducing the things we use the police for.

ReplyI’m unsure, honestly. I think cops need to pay more ATTENTION during training, and not just hear the things THEY want to believe THEY think are right. Stereotypes exist for a reason. These are the ones who wouldn’t pay attention and just crave total authority.
ReplyKiller Mike is right about training the police. In Finland, the basic police degree is a Bachelor’s degree, and it takes three years to complete the studies.
