ReplyAbuse is a sad and horrible thing so many of us have in common. My heart breaks for everyone who went through any form of abuse, especially as a child. But with truly loving support, it is possible to heal. Physically and emotionally. I have very strong opinions about abuse, but thank you for being courageous enough to share your story. Much continued success…another great interview Trevor, even though this topic is extremely hard for me to expose myself to.
ReplyBeing trans does not excuse abuse, and I am so sorry you had to go through that. However, there is no reason to misgender and deadname a transgender person anywhere, let alone on national TV. When talking about trans people, use their correct pronouns and name no matter what time period you are talking about: they were always trans, even before anyone else knew about it. This according to the GLAAD Media Reference Guide.

ReplyI think your parent has to understand she’s can’t erase her past as an abusive parent, a father-figure at the time. Katy, you deserve much more than “forget the past”. What happened to you as a child is still a horrible thing and your parent has to acknowledge that happened, and she can’t erase it. I hope you two can heal from that and work out your relationship, but if you need to take a break from her, please do.
