Jon Stewart for President
ReplyVery disturbing that when he says A Christian President, everyone cracks up laughing. Remember that old Dixie Chicks song, “There’s Your Trouble.”? Well, there’s your trouble.
ReplyColbert’s statement at the end “I condemn antisemitism in all it’s forms and I stand with all my friends in the Jewish community” is very telling of the grasp CBS has on him.
I miss the old Colbert and can’t wait till he gets out of his contract. You can tell by his face that he had a lot to say but couldn’t.
ReplyI mean I agree that shouldn’t cover up people’s awful takes, or sweep them aside and call the problem sorted (there’s deeper societal and structural issues that haven’t been addressed since…ever), but on the other hand, you aren’t obliged to endorse it by paying that person. Like if someone has goes on an antisemitic rant, it’s entirely ok to cancel a business deal with that person because of that. It’s also entirely ok to say that the person in question is maybe kind of an asshole, possibly even a dick. Like, nobody’s stopping Dave or Kanye or whoever from doing their profession; Kanye’s free to spout antisemitism and sell his music, Dave can buy a microphone, set up in the park and tell all the terf jokes he wants (all two of them). But to argue they’re entitled to their current platforms and markets just because, regardless of what they say or do, honestly sounds like some sort of weird neo-feudalism, where we dare not question milord’s opinions on such matters, and instead we pray that the lord softens their hearts to our plight. But yeah, these guys didn’t invent antisemitism and it is worth noting that they’re getting hit for normalising it when rich old white guys like Prager and Trump and Ford and the whole cabal of wealthy capitalists in the ownership class are the ones we should deplatform, possibly through some sort of nationalising of important industries, or anti-trust laws like they used to have to prevent monopolies/oligopolies and… shit this got way off topic. Point is, peace and understanding is nice, but sitting down with someone who genuinely thinks you have no right to exist and deserve violence (and may have committed such, or be planning it) isn’t always safe or possible. Speaking from a bi perspective.
ReplyJon Stewart for President!
ReplyHank Greenberg was the best Jew baseball player! .. then Koufax
ReplyYeah if people stopped pretending their fake tribe is genuine and deserves respect this bullshit wouldn’t happen.
ReplyTrue with every childish self centered group
it shouldn’t be hard to talk about things, this is why we have freedom of speech but use it not to piss everyone off.
ReplyJon is always interesting and witty
ReplyI don’t understand how such a powerless group is being defended with what are ultimately billion-dollar decisions going against the profit of a corporation.
ReplyCan you bring back the garlic bagel? I’ve missed them.
ReplyThanks for shouting out Palestine Jon…I love you…
