The chorus reminds me of Elliot Smith. That’s a good thing.

This is an incredibly meaningful song to me. A very close friend introduced me to Wilco, and though we share a fandom, I think I’ve stayed more current with the band than she has. But this song was and is a touchstone. We used to sing it together. I always remarked that, while the line is obviously, “Our love, our love, our love is all of God’s money,” I hear it as “Owl Love”. It’s just the way Jeff says it. When my friend gave birth to her first daughter, we were very far away from each other, and I wouldn’t meet the little nugget until several months later. We were “introduced” on a ten second video clip, and wouldn’t you know it…she had an owl on her onesie. I’m certain my friend didn’t do this on purpose, but at that moment, “Owl Love was all of God’s money.” And my heart was the burning sun.

Colbert if he’d learned to play a guitar at an early age. Can you see it?

I don’t know what this song was about and couldn’t understand a word, but it was one of the best songs I’ve heard and performed by the right person to do it well.
    Bravo! – m.
