ReplyThe US is not racist per se such as South Africa had apartheid which institutionalized racism was. The US culture on the other hand = contains a definitive thread of racism within it. Conservatives in the US try to rationalize that racists simply sprout from the ground like so many mushrooms and thus they are not emblematic of the broader culture. Yet even a mushroom must = have the conditions to allow it to grow.
Moral of the story: a culture “shapes” people = while people in turn shape their culture. Thus racisms exists within the broader US culture as an undercurrent if you will and that in turn helps to generate their overt racists who at time act out. So to try to deny the existence of racism within the culture fails to account for the reality that – like with mushrooms – if the conditions were not there…………..neither would they be.
Racist tendencies are inherent with the US culture and that in turn gives rise to overt racists who at times act upon their misguided beliefs. The only way to eliminate their paradigm is to first acknowledge it exists the same as an alcoholic must first admit they have a problem. The conservative Right in the US clearly has not reached that point yet = hence their continual denials and rationalizations here. Something for folks to think about.
