It could easily be the logo for America. Ya know, how some kindly white
folks — through a series of “friendly wrestling matches” — took it off
    the hands of Native Americans.

Why didn’t the town just add more to the seal? If they make it look like
the two are in a wrestling match with a very diverse color of spectators
watching them and such, it wouldn’t be much of a issue. But, with the seal
having little to no detail in the seal, it makes it very open to
interpretation on what is transpiring in the seal. Thus the issue of
    “racism” comes into play.

Heres a solution, if its just a friendly wrestling match, make the guy on
top the Indian and the guy on the bottom white, then everyone would be
    happy… right?

does the whiteboro seal situation remind anyone of that one episode of
south park with the racist flag.

I mean they seriously could’ve redone it to even have them shaking hands or
something. just a slight re-positioning. but they’re like ‘naw it’s cool.
    all in good fun” geezus

They wouldn’t have to do much, just have both of them standing up, and move
the white guy’s hands down. Solved.

Isn’t the reason it’s Whitesboro because the guy who founded the town was
called Hugh White? Seems pretty mundane to me.

I grew up in Whitesboro NY. The seal depicts a historic event that occurred
when one of the first settlers past the settlement of Mohawk, Hugh White,
won the respect of the Oneida’s.

The village is named after Hugh White, an early settler who had been
adopted into the Oneida tribe and built the first permanent settlement
    there in 1784-85.

The village gets its name from Hugh White’s house which he built into the
side of a hill. People called it “White’s burrow” which was shortened to
    Whitesboro.

The village has great respect for the Oneida people. Small fragments of
history can and often are taken out of context.

It is clearly a brown guy strangling a white guy. It’s obvious, and anyone
who says otherwise is a racist.

That logo represents a “friendly wrestling match” just like the KKK dresses
    in white robes for Halloween.

I’m all for freedom of speech and I support the townspeople’s decision to
keep the logo. That way, everybody else will know which places to avoid
    visiting.

The seal of Whiteboro depicts Hugh White — a white man — having a
friendly wrestling match with a Native American.

    Sounds legit.

Actually, there’s another way to look at this seal from a realist
standpoint… I mean, it’s deadly honest isn’t it?! With out any words the
seal conveys the fact that the white Europeans came & strangled the land
away from the Natives… at least they’re telling the truth & in the
end you know NOT to turn down the road leading to Whitesboro because who
wants to visit a town that’s proud of that seal?!
