I just imagine some kid doing a school protect on the history of space exploration in a few hundred years and getting confused when Shatner comes up in a search engine as a space captain of the Enterprise and the oldest man who went to space.
The funniest part is that Shatner isn’t even the first Trek actor to have visited space.
Dr. Mae Jemison was an actual NASA astronaut, who appeared on The Next Generation in 1993 (with a speaking role) after she left NASA in 1992.
That was before James Doohan’s ashes were sent to space as well.
This is a specious argument. One is either _in_ space or not. The duration does not enter into it, other than as a matter of physics. I don’t speak in defense of Mr. Shatner’s record, but I do take strong exception with Mr. Chieng’s glib denial of it.

When you put it like that, I would have to agree. A remarkable and mementos achievement as a species but not a record. Otherwise I could jump out of a speeding anything and break the record for fastest runner before my body rag dolled untimately looking like the gum you scraped off the bottom of your shoe on the street.
Sounds like someone is jealous.
ReplyRonny speaks the truth. I don’t make the rules.

ReplySo if I ever get in a 10 meter sprint and lose, I can say they should be disqualified because they didn’t do it for as long as I did.
