This isn’t new, I mean before it was filters it was the main media, by our demand. We wanted pretty faces and bodies on screen, and that’s what they gave us. Most ppl have warped image, as we all favor some side or pose and see it always mirrored anyways. It’s materialism and our fear. We see only gorgeous people with huge confidence and never failing, well that isn’t normal and we shouldn’t be afraid of not appearing “perfect”, what ever that means.
Didn’t these bit melted barbie faces come a thing right away when the plastic-surgery was efficient or marketable enough? When they stopped using copper plates, and some looking themselves insane amounts of time today, no wonder we have obsessed on this “a bit”! I mean for sure nobody else is ever going to look you or your selfie as long and as judgingly as you yourself might. Most ppl barely see others from worrying too much of what they were born as, and how it could be better with just a bit of neurotoxin here and there..
For women and girls it is insane, but to us men too. we are all so scared and insecure we don’t dare to let it show even a bit or ppl might see what they see already since they see you more realistic than you do.

Teenagers, you’re going to look beautiful when you grow into your mid 20s and your brain will grow fully when you reach towards your 30s and realize there are bigger fish to fry. Stick to healthy eating, different forms of exercises and cool activities, better sleeping schedules and upgrading yourselves with great philosophical wisdoms. Helps you physically, mentally and spiritually for the better end of your lives.

My child in elementary school began comparing themselves to other students when the zoom calls began during COVID. They kept asking , why don’t I look like so and so? Or saying I look’weird’ …I kept them away from social media, no cell phones etc.. but the Zoom calls found away to creep up those insecurities at such a young age.

Keep reminding your kids they are beautiful and to embrace their flaws. There is so much out there we need to watch out for.

How about instead of saying “due to the Pandemic” we say more accurately, “due to the gross negligence in handling the pandemic from the beginning…”. We MUST remember – IT DIDN’T HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS. Trump and his suckups had every opportunity to follow expert recommendations and fund the agencies that could have minimized this. This is the critical point of how the pandemic has changed us, and we need to recognize that every time we talk about it.

Although this issue might have been magnified with social media; girls and women all over the world have been dealing with self esteem/body image issues for ages now. Parents can help by giving attention to our children, actually listening to them. Also developing one’s own self esteem by doing whatever activity that one enjoys and can keep busy with- be it academics, sports, art, music etc. and having a peer group with similar thought processes can help young teens to be happy and develop self esteem.

There’s so much more toxicity on social media outside of photos. I stopped using Facebook 4 years ago (I’m 29) and photos had nothing to do with it. I saw friends making life decisions based on how popular the post about it would be, friends getting into vicious debates they otherwise never would’ve, and no one uses it in moderation. But I do agree with this piece.

I really don’t have a problem. I know that I’m cute. Actually, I feel like I look odd when the camera doesn’t reflect what I see in the mirror. Like in the mirror, I look cute but when I take a picture and the image shows me how others see me, I’m not used to looking at that.
But I don’t alter my face. I keep my proportions the same. The only filters I use is when I make myself look like a skeleton or an animal or some kind of fictional character. But I don’t feel like I look bad. I may not look like a super model or have the perfect skin but I like my face.

    Reply
  • Chris West 2 years ago

Uh, duh? If you NEED a filter on ALL of your photos to measure your own self-worth, self-image, and self-esteem, THEN THAT IS A PROBLEM! How about this, put down your phone, go outside, and just enjoy your life. NOT EVERY MINISCULE MOMENT OF YOUR EXISTENCE NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD TO SEE! Get off social media. I guarantee you’ll be happier without it. And I know that this is slightly ironic and hypocritical, the fact that I am posting this comment on a video on YouTube. But in all sincerity, you don’t need to filter your life for all of the “likes” and “adoration” of a faceless mass of sheeple who don’t even truly know the real you at all. Live your life for you and no one else.

Too many set their fix on the opinion of others and allow them to crush their ego. While everyone has the right to say what they will, I say what I want, skip what I don’t care for.

As someone who frequently photoshops food photos I gotta say retouching is only half the problem. The quality and quantity of the materials and the care that goes into preparing the products we shoot does not reflect the actual product the consumer receives in any way even before all the photoshop.

Worse than this are the pages on social media that encourage people to just make businesses without getting the proper education with the hope of becoming a millionaire! This world doesn’t need people who just buy and sell products again and again, we need genuine producers too.

Cudos to Trevor for appearing natural in the last year of the show. Skip the make-up session even after SARS-CoV-2?

I think it would be more useful to normalize the idea that being beautiful is not a requirement. You don’t have to be beautiful, you don’t have to make yourself believe you’re beautiful, you can just accept that you’re not beautiful and it’s no big deal. There are other things in life and if not then go find something else to worry about.

She’s very concerned for not just her children (or does she have 1 child, she’s very private) but she’s concerned for the human race as well. I’d love to see a report on how our chemical make up is changing in our brains before my brain is totally destroyed. Love ya! I loved the story of when Fluffy sent you to jail.
