Do these people not understand the displacement that happens when you drop a 15 lb bird into a liquid? And dropping it instead of lowering it slowly? Seriously?
Our across-the-alley neighbor set fire to his garage doing this. (Yes, he could have taken down the entire neighborhood but for quick responding firefighters.)
The only person know who successfully deep-fried a turkey is my younger brother. The set-up was in the middle of his huge backyard, with a super-sturdy tripod that had a crank/chain gismo to lower/raise the turkey.
Never seen a tofurkey burn the house down. Just sayin’.

He did it peanut oil and it was delicious!
