Ethan Hawke tells a story about a production of Macbeth that went wrong and the correlation he’s noticed between getting paid more for movies he holds guns in.
Americans love guns. Shocking!
For most people in America, the motivation for greed is delivered subtly along with their life, so nuanced you might not know it; like the stuff, stuffed into the baby’s bottle; hand fed from birth, to be dissatisfied with the status quo, and forever know, that nothing is ever good enough.
Another sadistic American trap disguised as desire; a sunken place, to which we all fall, dressed and designed, to keep us in suspense; to maintain that essential tension, and most of all, to leave us left wanting, some mysterious external thing we can never find, and never obtain, and remains just out of our reach, taunting us forever; leaving us high and dry, for all eternity.
We are the remains, of just another clever American trap, to keep us from satiety.
‘Macbeth: The Rock Opera’ has gotta be coming out of this sometime…
(Sidenote) The way his jacket is hunched up top is acc making me anxious
Ethan’s done so many cool and weird science fiction films over the years…Gattaca, Daybreakers, Valerian, Predestination…I hope he keeps that going. Dig his unconventional roles.
Give us back the Mike O’Brien podcast!
Seth is the best interviewer…love how he weaves in the pre-conversation to allow the story to be told without insulting the audience as if he’s never heard it.
When is next Before movie coming out? I am waiting eagerly.
Such an underrated actor.
Hearing him talk about his daughter was so sweet!
