I was a good shy kid deathly afraid to get in trouble with Nuns or Parents. So when I would go in to confession and be like I was good, did not lie etc. and the priest would like interrogate me and tell me what I did wrong. I started to feel really bad about myself and didn’t like what they were saying to me. So I started to lie to the Priest by telling him I lied.

ReplyI can’t believe Conan said as an example…”I took the last pop tart”. Taking the last pop tart literally turned into years of therapy for this recovering Irish Catholic girl!
ReplyMy friend in Rome would go to one of the cathedrals and choose a priest who’s 3rd or 4th language on their list was English.

ReplyIts called Religion. It propagates toxic masculinity and shame-based child rearing. Their parents forbade the females to chew gum or get pierced ears as they were afraid of what their religious community would think of them.
ReplyI sinned in my first confession, I was so afraid of the nuns, that when I went to confession, I had to make up a sin (lie) to keep the nuns and the priest happy. Said my three Hail Marys and that was the end of the confession/penalty phase, and the start of my life of sin.
ReplyI was lucky to have the big sister buffer. Her ears pierced-clothes out the window, my ears pierced-doctor appointment. “Looked like a pirate”-hilarity.
