4:50. Politicians work for US. Protesting raises awareness of important issues, especially if it gets media attention on a local and national news platform. (We should record our own protests too in case media coverage ruijs the message.) But we have to be consistent so politicians take us seriously. If we don’t hold them accountable, then we are giving them our vote for free and they don’t have to do their jobs.

Do we know who our city, county, state, and federal representatives are? Find that out and we all can be more organized and intentional about who we’re protesting too.

Also, as an alternative to protesting, we can look up their contact information online, so we can organize a group of people (or we can go by ourselves) and request a meeting with our political representatives or their designated staff. We need to ACCEPT that politicians don’t have knowledge on every issue. Be PREPARED to discuss our and their perception of the problems, and OFFER SOLUTIONS. Without providing them a solution, we’ll be waiting for a long time for them to come up with a solution, that may or may not solve our problems.

Lastly, stay engaged no matter if it’s a candidate you voted for or didn’t vote for. Republican, Democrat, or Independent: it doesn’t matter because we’re all Americans at the end of the day. 👍🏾

The book ‘Civil Disobedience’ by Henry David Thoreau is said to have inspired MLK & Gandhi. I think it was the fact that MLK was Christian that helped the cause. Being Christian made him part of the majority.
