I am an Immigration Activist, but Americans are nor allowed to play Americans anymore even when it comes to African Americans in historic African American parts. Most of them are not good. Some are. I have not watched this movie, but he was good in Get Out — but still why give the role to an automatically stamped Privileged Immigrant and not to a struggling American-born Actor who can play the role better — and there is no wait on the viewer that the accent is off or the actor does not look American.

I just try and imagine how broken hearted these people would be from chairman fred to MLK jr. to see how little progress has actually been made. Shame on US ALL. This is OUR time to stand up and say NO MORE. No more dead young black men, no more with people who are supposed to be educated DRs believing lies spread to condone slavery. No more white people turning a blind eye to the struggle our fellow Americans are facing each and everyday in a country that supposed to be “home of the free”

Youtube commenters, I would like to hear what you think. I’m not sure if Chadwick Boseman was a contender for this role before he passed, but this role definitely reminds me of him and the kinds of roles he chose. I wonder if Daniel feels like he is filling a Chadwick-sized hole in the world, and I wonder if that is a good feeling or a bad feeling? I know there’s a lot more behind these two men, it just came to mind. I would like to hear others’ thoughts/ideas/perspectives on this. Please stay kind in your responses, thank you 💜

David Kaluuya is great, I’ve loved him since I watched his black mirror episode on Channel 4 all those years ago. Really glad he’s getting all these meaty roles. He’s really deserves it 😊

Imagine if the film actualy had the balls to openly show that Fred was a straight up revolutionary communist (maoist) who informed his activism and praxis through that ideology and theory and it was an inseperable part of him and the Black Panther Party. You couldnt even become a Black Panther without reading your Lenin and Mao. And i dont say that as a negative, we shouldnt whitewash Fred’s beliefs and ideology

Very telling and typical of someone like Colbert to say “the film shows warts and all” and be referring to the Black Panthers and not the Chicago Police and the FBI. Also not surprised that the subject of Hampton being a Marxist-Leninist was not brought up.

Well that was a very cagey semi-articulation of the enduring white fear of Black liberation movements. “Not portraying the Black Panthers as saints” is a silly preoccupation that reveals a dirty truth deep in the white soul. The Panthers fed Black children and protected Black citizens. The FBI and police harried them, infiltrated them and murdered them.

I appreciate that this didn’t seem to be one of those interviews where everything is worked out before it starts. Stephen seemed to genuinely consider what he was asking and Daniel Kaluuya gave very thoughtful and honest answers. I thought his saying that moments change and he has to be truthful to what he feels was a interesting way to put it.
