ReplyThanks for this, Roy! But boy, this list was way too short. We shouldn’t forget Saint-George, who was called the “Black Mozart” in his day (and was a world-class fencer and lady’s man), and George Walker, the first winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Music, who would have been 100 this year… celebrations happening in dozens of orchestras right now.
ReplyWould maybe be interesting to do a CP Time not about a field where black people are often overlooked like classical music, but about a field where it’s well known that black people had a big influence, like blues and jazz leading to rock and funk and how black musicians have formed the popular music as we know it today.
ReplyMight not fit perfectly into the segment (or into 5 mins), but would be super interesting to hear more about 🙂
Funny Man…Classic
ReplyThanks for the classical music lessons!
Reply*Nice video!! Very engaging from beginning to end. To obtain financial freedom, one must be either a business owner, an investor or both, generating passive income, particularly on a monthly basis.*
ReplyThis ought to be a PBS show.
ReplyBig shoutout to Henry Thacker Burleigh (1866-1949), the first black composer who opened African-American music to the classical scene and served as a mediator to open-minded white composers like Antonin Dvorak (prompting the latter to state that American classical music would inevitably have roots in Black music – admittedly because Dvorak had misunderstood something about the relation of what he thought was Native American music and African American music, but nobody tell me it ain’t true regardless…).
ReplyThank you for highlighting these overlooked artists. You are the best.
