“Thank god he didn’t listen to you.” – Stephen Merchant is really glad Greg Daniels ignored Conan’s advice about adapting “The Office” in the U.S.

Conan has been an integral part of the tapestry we call American TV.
ReplyThe romance between Jim and Pam worked for audiences because American women are obsessed with tall white men.
ReplyConan you are a beautiful beautiful man .. Sona I want to take your DNA, clone you and marry you. Merch doesn’t get the credit he deserves, very funny man.
ReplyTo be honest, I hated the first episodes of the Office US. It felt like they wanted to be the Office UK but they made Scott incredibly unlikeable and it didn’t work. It took almost a season and a half before they found a way to change Office US into something quite different from Office UK that worked with American comedy.
ReplyPlease get better cameras! That gorgeous Conan face deserves a better quality camera.
Replyhere is a study, look at the number of 2 and 3 children households in walkable cities vs 2 and 3 children households in suburbas and cummuter cities and you may see the number of regular “nuclear” families are higher in suburbs and commuter communites, across the globe, vs those that live in traditional walkable cities that may have higher non traditional families and families with a higher child count. Transportation maybe a major factor, granted corraleation is not causation however during the 1930s and the great depression era families were stilling having large amounts of children, then WWII then the 1950s and the Golden Era of American Imperalism, and the major conductor was the big 3 Chysler, Ford and GM. They promoted a the traditional home with garage and car and commute. From there birth rates have gone done, now that is just a narrative, but i would not be surprised if the data matched that narrative, and what is even more scary, is the idea that they are trying t further that with electric vehicles creating new demand to replace every gasoline vehicle with an electric one, creating artifical demand. Amazing, truly amazing. Stupid, but amazing.
ReplyLoving these videos of the podcast!
Replyi’m sorry Stephen – i have to disagree here – The Office US is about a boss – who is a loser – doesn’t quite fit in anywhere – has some marketing skills and has somehow managed to become a boss despite his buffoonery – and his interaction with his co-workers – the story of Jim and Pam is just a way to move the story forward.
Reply1:17 “If something works in this country, grind that thing until it’s no longer funny and then do it ten more years.”
ReplyAs soon as Conan said that on the podcast I had to seek out on YouTube that bit with Steve Martin talking about “going to the comedy well and sucking it dry, and you go back to the well, and go back to the well until it’s… arid.” A brilliant bit that might not even have made it on the actual show, it’s in Scraps.
Hello Ladies is one of my favorite shows. I don’t understand how it was cancelled.
Replyi watched this on podcasts and i loveeeeedddd it
ReplyI started watching late night with Conan O’Brien from the very first episode it was amazing in my opinion compared to a lot of the stuff that was airing at the time and I literally tried to record every single episode on VHS tape and a lot of times I would have drinks back in my drinking days and we watched the episodes and laugh my ass off and just watch it constantly so hilarious! One of my favorite characters was a character called “the loser”. Character would always end up getting attacked by a bear LOOOL
Replyhow the hell are they this sophisticated now and yet still recording on a potato.. i don’t get it
ReplyConan is the GOAT.
Replywhere can i watch the video version of the podcast?
Replythe funny thing is that Godzilla and Mothra are a romance. She’s the Queen of the Monsters and he’s the King, and she’s sacrificed herself for him several times.
ReplyThat’s why Seinfeld is the greatest ever sitcom. Jerry went out #1. He wanted to go out on top.
