I think the rest of the country is being punished because of the unfortunate people in the cities who are suffering the most.

These two calling for herd immunity as they sit in their homes. Go out then, fly to Georgia, go to the beach in Florida

In 2019, 34,000 people died of the flu…….but we didn’t shut down the US because the jobs of millions aren’t worth the death of a few thousand. Most of the people dying from COVID19 are elderly and don’t have much to live for anyways. There will always be collateral damage. The jobs of 30 million shouldn’t be sacrificed for the lives of a few. Just think of it as population control.

These rich guys are just worried about their stock portfolios. All paid for by corporate lobbyists to open up business no matter what. Look at the Spanish flu and you’ll see that the people who responded quickly and took it seriously saved many lives. Coronavirus can mutate easily and will come back twice as bad. The Spanish flu killed people within 12 hours on contact during the second wave. Maybe it’s time to thin the herd of the stupid people who believe in herd immunity.

I totally agree with Grokh , from Sweden, They are NOT going for Herd Inmunity, they simply are like Norway, Denmark , and Finland,, more Educated, Disciplined, Well Behaved, Intelligent, Cultures, and Societes . They take Serious Things seriously , and have Goverments that take Science and Medicine , with respect. That is a HUGE difference, with Americans that think MONEY AND DOLLARS SOLVE everything!!!!

So let me get this. Because we have deadbeat leaders at the top, we should just give up and all get sick. How about doing our best to stay healthy and hold those criminally incompetent leaders accountable? Since when have we become a nation of quitters?

Don’t you just LOVE rich white men telling us we should all get a deadly disease from the safety of their mansions? I’ve seen Bill slide slowly but surely more right wing over the past couple of years and now I’m finally DONE. If I want to listen to right wing propaganda that “sacrifices” (AKA DISCARDS) the lives of poor people to keep rich guys’ stock portfolios up, why shouldn’t I just listen to Trump? Adios Bill!

THAT’S NOT WHAT “HERD IMMUNITY” MEANS, MORON! I never thought I would see Bill Maher turn into a science denying idiot but little by little, he’s become as much of a quack as right wingers. First it was his idiotic gluten obsession, then anti-vaxxing (no matter how he excuses it) and now this! “Herd Immunity” is what happens AFTER nearly the entire population is VACCINATED- that’s what it MEANS. But now I guess Bill just makes up words to fit his agenda! The agenda that will get vulnerable people KILLED. But he has tons of money so he’s safe, so who cares? What a sad decline of a once-sharp thinker!

This is the guy who said he wishes the economy would crash just to get back at Trump. People commit suicide because of financial troubles. Just goes to show how deranged and out of touch with the average American these celebrities are.

I dislike Stephens but he is correct. There won’t be a vaccine for years if ever and we can’t close the economy forever. Let the less densely populated parts of the country reopen with sensible social distancing policies but no more of this lockdown because another great depression will break this country. We don’t have the industrial base and strength today that we did a century ago.

Ok true, we’re not weighing the “economy vs. lives,” but rather ”lives vs. lives.” However, thats only because THE GOVERNMENT ISNT DOING ANYTHING. If the government was helping, then people wouldn’t be forced to go back to work until it was safe….ya know, like Denmark has been doing. But instead, our government shut down the economy (which was the right decision), and has been dragging their feet ever since. Our government has purposely done nothing in order to make the people demand the economy to reopen….it’s good PR, and makes it seem like it was the people’s choice. In reality, the people had no choice in the matter; the government never provided an alternative option.

Add into the mix an illiterate, irresponsible populace that thinks their freedoms are being infringed, and the whole thing became one giant shit show. Assuming there will be a significant second wave of the virus, we’re screwed.

Our economy is in an INDUCED COMA; a situation not of its own making. It will revive when the pressures collapsing it are relieved. In the meantime artificial life support is the only way to keep the patient alive. ONLY PAY LOST WAGES UNTIL WE KICK THE VIRUS, and we’ll bounce back just fine. A temporary ban on large scale acquisitions in the high finance bracket might be in order….monopolies are like Communism; stifling institutions that reduce progress, as it eliminates the element of challenge from the game.

The first thing is: It is mandatory that everyone wears a mask whenever they are with other people. China had a much lower amount of people per capita having Covid 19 – they all wear masks.

Comparing US to Sweden is not appropriate. Sweden has no poverty, the best health quality and care system, among other things, and an organized economy. US has enormous amounts of poverty, malnutrition, poor public health system, among other things. Applying Swedish approach to US would be disastrous. Just see the results of the latest tumultuous openings, beach parties, etc.

“Don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach” is exactly the argument for states having more power over individuals than the Federal Government as was originally intended (i.e., the Federal Government regulates states while states regulate people)
