There seems to have been a certain naivety on the part of South Africans as to where the worthy things were in the world; could be a collective “the grass is always greener” phenomenon

But that’s not so different from many places, when the white men with guns appeared from the distant shore, some receiving people thought they were gods; and perhaps that’s not so bad.. we should sometimes desire change

I think the difference amongst these places was how willingly they accepted the idea of cultural superiority brought forward to them

And the specific policies utilized in transforming the receiving nations; those were unique

Also, yea, South Africans had to fight to play the music their way, because South Africans are heroes and heroes strive in the world

How these two have made it outside South Africa should be what those back in their country should use as an example of how sensible people behave towards foreigners.

Omg I’m looking him up right after leaving this comment!! I’m so excited! This is something that I’ve been missing and wanting so badly: black people embracing and living their culture and heritage and being proud of it and more importantly, I think, sharing it for the world to see. As a whitish girl in a small town right in the middle of America, I don’t get to set that stuff unless I go looking hard for it. The only thing I have from my personal heritage even are some Italian recipes (but I also have German, French, Polish, Scandinavian, and many others that I didn’t get any cultural influence from) and I’m glad that at least one survived but I’m sad the others have been lost to me. So PLEASE throw it in my face and let me love it so it will be known to the world again. Thank you Black Coffee and Trevor Noah 😁
