those chsnging their accents, did so of their own accord, you can still speak in your own accent and yet speak properly. listen to Trevor Noah, how he tslks, Samuel L jackson, Obama, they talk in their own voice, but they speak fluently. slang is not for the corporate space, and infact beneath a certain age group and social standing, its like that in every society, evrn in Africa. the Elders of society and coporate workers speak in a manner that is respectable, snd not like the hustling masses on the streets.

Companies like Nike and Apple should move their factory back to US from China, and hire more African Americans. But they won’t. An announcement of supporting BLM is much cheaper than moving the factory.

Oh my gosh this made me cringe in familiarity; the hair comments, the “wow you speak so intelligently, I’m surprised” …the “white voice”!! OH ma goooosh the “white voice”…Lmao it is so familiar and cringe

You’re talking about racism, and that does exist. We also need to talk about ageism. I’m an age 61 white male in good health. I’ve put in applications all over town and not got a single call back. This has been going on for a decade. Restaurants, retail outlets, the scrapyard, I don’t even get the courtesy of a call of explanation. I’m ignored because of my age. They’re only too happy to take my money, though. So it’s not just black people who endure discrimination. Once you’re past age 40, you’re passed over.

As a straight white dude I 1000% think we need more diversity in leadership positions – your racist old uncle is never gonna change

When people see my name on application, they see my last name which is Spanish so when I get interviewed, they are expecting to see a Spanish person. But in reality they see a black guy and they look confuse then the first question they ask me is “do you speak Spanish?” Or “so what are you, where you from?” And no I don’t speak Spanish lol and sometimes I eat mail in Spanish 😂

Thank you very much for all the work you and your team do. That’s very true and it makes me sad and angry… my husband tells me he does speak his second language “white voice” everytime he interacts with Non-Black executives or co-workers.
    This crap must stop!

Flip it around. It’s a lot harder to become a famous white rapper or basketball player, that’s racist. Stop looking at color people!

I worked for a white manager who could not STAND to have a more educated black woman in his staff. Most. Stressful. Job. Ever. I had constant hiccups because I was so stressed.
He would say ‘you know just because you have xyz degree doesn’t mean you’ll succeed here’ (I never told him what degree I had and he wasn’t the one who hired me). He questioned everything I did until ANY white person told him that yes that’s actually how it’s done.

LOL I feel their pain. Working in a office environment gets really cringey at times especially as a minority. I remember co-worker (black) and I having a conversation how when we were kids we used race with shopping carts down the block. Another co-worker jumped in into the conversation asked so that’s how you get around in the “Neighborhood”? we stayed silence and she straight walked out. My favorite one: my Co-Worker asked me if it was OK if I can park her car daily for her I didn’t speak to her for weeks she came with a Ruth’s Chris gift card to apologize SMH. I have stories for months.

The problem is black people working around democrats. This is a democrat problem. Black people working around Republicans are treated like Americans. Especially true in blue collar physical labor jobs.

Whose life truly matters..?? People don’t even value their own lives at times……. I don’t feel oppressed I’m Latino and sometimes I get called before the first White person is called…….. and then too most minorities want all the perks of the workplace that Whites get…… I don’t care for that as long as I can work……

I bet you: sing, cook, dance, will hurt someone if you get angry, exclusively listen to rap, use profanity in casual conversation, don’t wash your hair, come from a broken home, are from an “urban” environment, were “trained” to speak so “eloquently”, are not using your “authentic” voice, are not “from” America, are not educated, do not live in this neighborhood, are not like “the other”, etc. The list is endless. No wonder intelligent life forms do not make contact with Earthlings. They have seen how the majority of earth (POC) are treated and said, ‘ let’s skip this place; they don’t care for their own species.’ The other life forms on earth and in the sea probably tipped them off and said, ‘the humans are the worst.’

Sorry disagree….because you didn’t address the REASONS and simply give racist reason why they don’t get call back or hired. But the fact is and everyone know this…majority of the black hired work less hard compare the white, Asian or Mexican if one to go step further…Asian and Mexican / Latin person work more the hardest they go above and beyond to keep their job…then white….then black…this is why people less likely hiring black…not because being racist … But simply because as a business they are looking for the most benefit out of their worker! Stop this victim mentality and start doing more! As black ancestors have work hard to get all this people to where they are now….so stop blaming on skin and work above and beyond to proof other wrong.

I am not surprise about that because before Facebook and all the other social media become so popular, I remember a blog where a white lady in HR said whenever she saw a resume that has a black name in it she would not even look at it. So it is not surprising to me at all.
