BBC News has been demonstrating the “wonders” of technology during the COVID era by using remote cameras to shoot its broadcasts, and well, it’s a wonder no one has quit.

Rebellion of the Automated Cameras
ReplyThis reminds me of thw whacky robot arm from IRON MAN. 😝
ReplyThe robots are just trying to remind us we’re not that important.
ReplyThis is like the robotics version of people’s pets interfering with their owners Zoom calls 😂😂😂😂
ReplyI bet the robotic camera operators are old and find new technology confusing. I bet there’s a joy stick on the control that has the inverse control setting on.
ReplyI feel like the cameras get bored.
ReplyNo bloodshed, boat stuck, Kreepy Kruz, pandemic shortfalls or border bodies. All but robocams and in jest in a gruff voice – Sam signs off “that’s the was it is”. haha
ReplyThe robot camera looking for hot cams
ReplyDid the BBC get their robot tech from Stark Industries?
Reply😂😂😂😂🤔❤
Reply“60 minutes” did a piece last night about Boston Robotics- the company which manufactures those robot “dogs.” Watching Bee’s clip this morning was a fun juxtaposition: at once the same and very different.
Replyfreaking funny!!!
Reply1:07 Don’t you just hate it when you turn invisible? 😅
ReplyIf the robotcameras could talk, they’d sound like Daleks and say “BORING! I AM BORED NOW!”
ReplyFrom Scotland. We love you
ReplyWhat if the Camera is just feeling our disdain and uninterest
ReplyLovely
ReplySmiles
I laughed very hard at thi…hey back over here!
ReplyBut what about the financial situation in Cyprus?!? I need to know!
ReplyLong way to go for AI LOL #AI
ReplySooo, this is that AI taking over the world everybody’s so afraid of?
ReplyLol this was hilarious
ReplyThe cameras, the sound mixing and the vision mixer are all controlled through the newsroom computer system – called ENPS – there are markers in the script and the rundown used for moving to different shots, firing VT inserts or playing audio stings. Because the vision mixer is also controlled through ENPS, this is why the director in the Gallery (control room) doesn’t switch immediately to a different camera.
ReplyHilarious! Makes you proud to be British! Or not! 😂
ReplyI swear, the BBC has had more problems with their system than any other network or local channel. Maybe it’s time to just buy a new one.
ReplyWe had a pandemic in 2014? 2017?
ReplyThe things I learn.✍️
ReplyHey, cut the BBC a little bit of slack. Up until last week they were still using stone tablets, hammers and chisels. You know how out of touch they are in that part of the world because they still have some ancient throwback to medieval times where they let some relic of a REALLY old woman pretend she does something for the “subjects” where they bilk the citizens into paying for their tea and crumpets to the tune of $Millions a year. The ultimate con.
ReplySoon the robots will take over and enslave us all. Unless we’ve already gone extinct, in which case it doesn’t really matter.
Replythe camera hardware looks to have crashed, i have a PTZ that failed like this and rehomes itself each time
ReplyGee if we could only hire ppl that do a better job
ReplyBless Sam’s crew for sharing this joy with us
Reply“That’s the safest thing to do.” That poor lady is authentically afraid of automated camera platforms. She’s wrong, but her fear is so … heartfelt.
ReplyHey, just because the robots are distractible…
Reply“Microsoft Windows For TV Is performing an essential System Update. Please do not turn off your studio.”
ReplyWhen the camera has ADHD.
ReplyRobo cop cameras gonna get the robocop up grade.
ReplySoon as Skynet downloads their updates.
They don’t want to pay camera men?
ReplyI think the use of robotic cameras in news studios is a real shame, because it eliminates jobs for people. But real local news is a rare thing now. Most stations (and newspapers) are owned by huge conglomerates that eliminate jobs so they can be outsourced to “hubs.” News studios even outsource master control operations and graphics departments to hubs located in other states. Sad.
ReplySome of these videos were YEARS pre-COVID though
ReplySkynet is here and it hates the BBC.
ReplyRobots are idiots! I knew it!
ReplyThe terminators Armageddon is suddenly gonna be much easier than expected…
This made me check to see if it was Wednesday. It’s Tuesday, and this was from Monday.
ReplyNTS: Find new way of determining Wednesdays.

Revenge of the Cyberman
ReplyAuntie Beeb, like many of us, isn’t coping with lockdown that well.
ReplyJust one more reason why I don’t want these things driving our automobiles.
ReplyRobots 🤖 know best

ReplyJust invest in the manpower for Pete’s sake.
ReplySamanta you are so funny…
ReplySamantha deserves an award for her suits, always different always good. Women really do have to do the most…..
ReplyThe presenters are so BBC about it.
ReplyThey really need to get that cameraman to an AA meet.
ReplyI think your brilliant 🥰🥰🥰
ReplyFunny how even the cameras can’t stand the BBC’s slant on the news these days.
Replywhy do they need the cameras to move, is it too much work to do it themselves?
ReplyI was wondering how they were gonna get rid of camera professionals . Max Headroom might have been a canary in the coalmine for some maybe? The absurdity of using these cameras certainly suggests even the glitches of Max’s faux-bot© would be acceptable if it means cutting a host’s paycheck down to naught. Don’t sleep, Ms. Bee!💋📣
ReplyI get it, it’s the spotlight dance routine. Well done Sam.
ReplyAt least they have a good humor about it. If it was Matt Lauer he would be screaming at everyone!
ReplyCameras are four dimensional beings and they are tracking multiple instances of reality. Just be cool and take a sec to sync back up and Bob’s your uncle.
Replyyou had to understand that there is no robot and more than that You have to understand that I am from Europe and more than that You have to understand that I am not a robot
ReplyYou have to understand that I am not a robot I am from Europe and from Romania I explained where I am from now you have to understand that I am not a robot If I was a robot I had to repeat the same words but you have to understand that I am not a robot and I am in Europe from Romania
ReplyI have been watching various BBC stations for the past 10yrs and I’ve never witnessed those incidents LIVE.
Reply😂😂😂😂 I was expecting some funny commentary on automation and the importance of real camera operators but no, Sam just wanted to make fun of the BBC fail moments over the pandemic 😂😂😂😂
