I left America for Japan 24 years ago. I’ve been offered jobs in America making three times what I make here and I turned em down in milliseconds. I wouldn’t move back to America for Bill’s salary.
Sure there are worse countries than America but there are a hell of a lot better ones too. Every time I go back to America to visit all I see is a crumbling country. Infrastructure is falling apart and the government spends millions on missiles to bomb poor brown people in countries that don’t even have a navy or air force instead of fixing simple things at home. Americans would rather walk to the pharmacy with a broken leg to get treatment than to take an ambulance to the hospital cuz they know it’s gonna cost $10,000.
Many expat Americans do prefer to live in EU countries for the *quality* of life. Low crime rates we’d love to have, much less income inequality, kids able to walk by themselves on safe streets, 20 vacation days for *all* full-time jobs guaranteed by law (including fast-food workers), and health care systems much better than anything we have…. not to mention banned pesticides and food additives allowed here (which makes food taste better too).
Many years ago I was in Costa Rica, where someone I knew had double bypass surgery. Three nights in the hospital to recuperate. Cost? You guessed it… Not.One. Penny.
It’s disingenuous for Bill Maher to say how well we live here compared to Uganda, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and other much less developed countries. We are a rich country, and we should compare ourselves to other rich countries. When we do, we come out below average.
Billy boy, I’m the guy. I’m the guy who got the fuck out, and after 20 years, nearly half my life living in Mexico, I can say that it was the right decision for me. One of my major malfunctions with the U.S. system is that it works too good for exactly the wrong type of people, while often leaving the folks who need the help out. Thusly, an entire generation of whiners and complainers have been created where self-reliance and self-determination are foreign concepts. To be clear, Mexico is a shit show. It’s exactly the kinda country Repubtards think they want to live in. Very low taxes, no governmental oversight, and cheap labor mean that if you have a good idea, you can make it happen…yet I laugh and laugh when these same gringos expect things like basic security, rules and regulation that makes sense, or a functioning efficiant bureaucracy for instance. So yes Billy boy I suppose in many ways the American system is better, but its still got no soul and the citizens it produces generally bore me to tears.
I’ve been in Asia for 20 years and I’m coming back to the US. Why? Because she needs me. Bailing on the country you love when she’s hurting isn’t way to go.
this isn’t even a country anymore. citizens united was the final deathnail. This is the country of a few giant corporations. The people have zero chance or zero voice. RIP and good luck
So, serious issues in all countries but only bullshit arguments on Canada and Europe. 😂
ReplyThe military sent me on six overseas tours. Thank your lucky stars, every single day, that you’re an American!

Reply9:05 he forgot to mention that, at one point, Sri Lanka had the highest rate of suicide bombing. Apparently, Hindus and Buddhists don’t get along.
