And let’s think about it this way – we are only about a half a generation out from the death of the concept that a man must “DOMINATE” (someone/something) to preserve his traditional masculine role. The death of the traditional masculine role and the rise of transgenderism as an acceptable mainstream topic is dually A) cooling some pent-up aggression by making the drive for masculine superiority less of ‘a thing,’ and B) causing an overcorrection in some areas where men lash out substantially more than they would have because they feel they have more territory to defend or a greater drive to protect traditional masculine roles as their fathers experienced. And, let’s be clear, it’s not just men lashing out to defend these areas – women who have substantial stock in the male-dominated domains and cultures are breathless with anticipation to die as martyrs for that cause. It’s Stockholm Syndrome complicated by ‘Roid Rage.

ReplyUnfortunately, the audience proved him right by laughing when he said that sometimes what a guy wants is to be held. Maybe it was nervous laughter or a legit “nah, that’s not a real guy” laughter, but it proves his point on why so many men can’t just go up to their friends and say “hey, I just need a hug” without being ridiculed when that same action from a woman would be met with a much-needed hug.

ReplyWhen the audience laughed when he said “As a guy, you can’t just go to another guy and say ‘just hold me'” is exactly what this piece is about. That wasn’t a funny statement. It was a serious, troubling statement and it went right over the audience’s head.
