My dad was an NRA member back before it went nuts. We got the magazines at the house, and I read them. It was all about hunting, sport shooting, and collecting. The ads were for traditional firearms, there was no politics, and only a very brief and cursory column about gun owners acting in self-defense. We’re talking one or two pages out of an entire magazine. Then it morphed into “from my cold dead hands.” When I took an NRA gun safety course in the 70s, it was all about how NOT to shoot people. Now it’s different. Oh, and just yesterday I saw an ad for – and I’m not making this up – a “tactical” wallet.

ReplyI think this might be the first and only gun book I’m going to buy.
ReplyAll licensed FFL dealers have to perform a background check at gun shows. Private sales of privately owned firearms is a personal property issue. If I knowingly sell my personal property to a person who can’t own it. This is already a crime. Columbine shooter got their guns via straw sale not from some dealer at a show.
Protecting yourself with firearm from armed rioters is not “Open Armed Intimidation”
ReplyI think Americans (of a certain political persuasion) forget that rights come with responsibilities.

ReplyGreat Interview. Thank you for these. Civil discussion like this is the first steps towards change and understanding.
ReplyTrevor is definitely Emmy material. Brilliant at bridging the gap and knowing when to let the interviewee speak. I’m sure growing up during apartheid has given him wisdom beyond his years.
ReplyTotally agree with his take aways. I too own fire arms and like shooting these remarkable machines. No reason for open carry in our society. Just a “big di&k” contest that is certain to end in killing. Just whine “I was afraid for my life” and all is forgiven. The real problem is our society though. No care for our brother and sister humans anymore – completely self absorbed.
ReplyResponsibility and respect.
